Gillett is an unincorporated coterie located in Karnes County in Texas. The Handbook of Texas stated that the community’s population was around 120 as of the year 2000. Even though the coterie is unincorporated, it has a post office. Karnes City Independent School District distributes the town’s public education system. Mr. Carld Edward Riedel dammed the creek and set up a dam in Electro Creek in 1869. The town was first named Riddleville after him, but they misspelled the name when a post office came in 1871. The town’s name was later changed for E.G. Gillett for his contributions to the community. The name change happened in 1905.
