Girard is both a CDP and an unincorporated community situated in Kent County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was just 50. The town was founded when the Stamford and Northwestern Railway was being built in the area. The community was named for a bookkeeper for the Swanson Land and Cattle Company. A post office was established that same year. The community was hit very hard by the Great Depression. The town’s public education system is distributed by the Jayton-Girard Independent School District. The community has a total area of 1.5 square miles, all of it is land.
