Girvin is an unincorporated community located in Pecos County in Texas. The Handbook of Texas states that the population of the community was around 30 in 1963 and the same goes for the year 2000. John H. Girvin is the reason the town was named this way who was a rancher in the area. He grew around the train stop at the Kansas City. Mexico and Orient Railway, it served as a cattle shipping point. The town was also good for oil, money, and farming which is why the community was progressing. The public education of the community is being served by the Iraan-Sheffield Independent School District.
