The town of Gober was firstly founded as Grittersville in the 1840s. The town had a name change in 1855 to honor the builders of the first mill in the community who were named Gober. The town’s population was at its high in the 1930s but has started to diminish ever since. The current estimate of the town’s population is around 146 residents. The town is situated on the intersection of Farm to Market Road 68 and Farm to Market Road 271. Gober is an unincorporated community and is located in Fannin County in Texas. Even though the community isn’t incorporated, it has a post office.
