Goree is a city located in Knoxx County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 203 The area was first settled around 1886. By 1887, the town already had a store and a post office which was built by Bill Benedict. The town was named Goree after a Confederate veteran named Robert D. Goree. As stated by the U.S Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.5 square miles, all of it is land. The public education system of the town is being distributed by the Munday Consolidated Independent School District. Goree’s peak of population was in the 1950s with around 640 residents.
