Grand Prairie is a city located in three different counties: Dallas County, Tarrant County and Ellis County in Texas. Grand Prairie has a population of 175,396 citizens as of the 2010 census, it is the fifteenth-most populous city in Texas. The city of Grand Prairie was founded as Dechman by a certain Alexander McRae Dechman in 1863. Thirteen years later, Dechman traded half of his land to Texas and Pacific Railroad to make sure that the railroad would go through the town. The town’s post office was opened in 1877 by the name of Deckman because the U.S Postal Service couldn’t quite read the writing on the form. After that happened, the town’s confusion forced it to rename it to Grand Prairie. Some of the points of interest in the city are Cedar Hill State Park, Joe Pool Lake, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not.
