Guthrie is an unincorporated community in, a census-designated place in, and the county seat of King County. It was founded in 1883 when Louisville Land and Cattle Company bought land around the site. W.H. Guthrie was a major shareholder of the company; hence where the settlement was named after. In 1891, the settlement was surveyed by the first resident and fought to make Guthrie the county seat. Ironically, Louisville Land and Cattle Co. proposed Ashville, a different site, to be the county seat. Guthrie won the election and the post office was established within that year. In 1900, the Louisville Land and Cattle Co. was sold to the legendary 6666 Ranch, which has been under operation up to date. The movie Mackintosh and T.J. was set in Guthrie. As of 2010, its population was 160.
