Hamlin is a city in Jones and Fisher Counties. The Jones County section of Hamlin is part of the Abilene metropolitan area. It was established in anticipation of a railway construction. The town was organized in 1905 and the first train arrived in 1906. A second railroad soon reached the town, followed by a third one in 1910. A decade after, the town discovered oil. The railroads and oil greatly contributed to the growth of Hamlin. In the late 1970s, the town had eighty businesses that included a cottonseed oil mill, gins, and a variety of other establishments. Hamlin remains to be a farming and varied manufacturing center. As of 2010, its population was 2,194.
