Happy is a town in Randall and Swisher Counties. The Randall County section of Happy is part of the Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was incorporated in 1925 and was named after a stream called Happy Draw, when a team of cowboys happily found water in the area. Although its name has been noted on lists of unusual place names, the community stood by its literal meaning; the town’s motto is “The Town Without A Frown.” It is home to the famous sportsman Joe Cephis Fortenberry, and the Uncle Sam Band, who once led a parade in Amarillo during the visit of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Most of the businesses in Happy is farming-related. However, the number of its residents didn’t grow as much as the number of residents is decreasing by 10% annually due to water shortage in the area. As of 2010, its population was 678.
