Hart is a city in Castro County. It is located along SH 194, southeast of the county. The city was founded in 1899 by T. W. Hart; hence where the name was after. The following year, his family established a post office and started selling groceries and fresh meat. The town was organized in 1925. A year later, a railroad was completed and the city became a depot. Consequently, the town was incorporated and it quickly grew from then. In the 1980s, the city became a market center for area ranchers and farmers. A rodeo and the Hart Days celebration became the annual event of the city. In 2010, a 966-gram rare type of meteorite was also discovered near Hart; three years later, it was published in The Meteoritical Bulletin under the official name of “Hart.” As of 2010, its population was 1,114.
