Harwood is an unincorporated community in Gonzales County. It is located along US 90, approximately one mile north of I-10. It was founded in 1874 when a railway was expanded through the area. Harwood was named after Thomas Moore Harwood, an attorney from Gonzales. The community was incorporated in 1913. By 1920, it had 200 residents. The following decade, Harwood retracted its growth. The production and shipment of cotton, cattle, and firewood, which had been the town’s economic mainstays, were all decreased in the 1940s. Harwood was disincorporated during the 1970s. Despite being unincorporated, the community has a functional post office. As of 2000, its population was 112.
