Coastal Bend Distilling Co

Distillery in Beeville - 94.54 mi

Coastal Bend Brewing, in a county resolution, is the “Official Distillery of Bee County”. Opened in December 2018, owners Kenneth and Eveline Bethune wanted to invest in a company that “would benefit the local community (but) is not wholly dependent on the community for revenue”. The distillery takes its name after the recognizably South Texas part of Texas. The owners feel the company's name “captures” the South Texas pride in all their products. The distillery is currently waiting for their Texas Bourbon to age. Meanwhile, they offer four spirits including the so-called “accidental gin” named Lucky Star. “It is more of a non-gin-drinkers gin,” Kenneth says. The gin was "a happy accident" despite not having all the usual ingredients needed to create gin. The group also bottles blended whiskeys and offers Live Oak Vodka. The tasting room, made from a repurposed hardware store adjacent to the distillery, includes a dance hall available for special events.

Azar Distilling

Distillery in San Antonio - 142.07 mi

Husband and wife Trey and Kimberly Azar founded Azar Distilling. Azar Distilling started with Cinco Vodka in 2009 but the couple took a circuitous route to establishing the distillery. Trey Azar was in the oil and gas business when he decided to go back to his roots in liquor. His grandparents were the first Coors distributor in Texas, and he was a wine salesman and buyer in a former lifetime. Kimberly, meanwhile, worked in the cosmetics industry. While on a business trip, Trey realized there’s a niche for a premium American vodka. Trademarking the brand Cinco Five Star after the number of kids he and Kimberly have, the couple were soon on their way to producing their award-winning vodka. The vodka takes five times longer to make, results in a vodka five times better tasting, but without the cost. Cinco Vodka is now part of Azar Family Brands. The Azars expanded their product line to include Seersucker Gins in 2016.

Cinco Vodka

Distillery in San Antonio - 142.07 mi

They do not have an online presence as of this writing since their website domain will be coming soon. Cinco Vodka's vodka has already won several awards from "international spirits competition". This vodka is "clean and smooth" and "it neglects the harsh, overly alcoholic characteristics present in many vodkas, even many in its price range". It is a “martini lovers vodka”. You can check out their social media page when you want to get some updates about their vodka.

Seersucker Distillery

Distillery in San Antonio - 142.08 mi

Seersucker Distillery "is a gem only found right outside San Antonio" with "great space indoors and outdoors". It is a "bit of a drive but once you’re there you want to come back immediately". Seersucker Distillery produced "some of the best cocktails" that are "tasty, refreshing and satisfying on a hot summer day". An "excellent venue to relax and appreciate a craft", their "gin is very underrepresented in the land of margaritas" but they still "thrives due to its distinctly southern honey and mint notes". When you visit, you should "order the flight because it comes with all three gin flavors" and "both vodkas".

Devils River Whiskey

Distillery in San Antonio - 146.95 mi

Devils River Whiskey's name was inspired by “Devil’s River” after the name of Devils River which is part of the Rio Grande water basin where they sourced water for the distilling process. Their Small Batch Texas Bourbon whiskey has a "popcorn and toasted oak" flavor. It is "fair, no burn, and not overly complex". It has a "hard, robust flavor" with a "very earthy and that flavor lingers through the finish".  They also have Devils River Barrel Strength Bourbon and Devils River Rye Whiskey. The latter is the spicier counterpart of their Bourbon Whiskey while the former has a full-strength, straight from the barrel flavor. You can check out their website for their scheduled events.

Maverick Whiskey

Distillery in San Antonio - 146.97 mi

Maverick Whiskey is a "great bar with a cool set-up, tasty food, and creative Texas cocktails". Their "restaurant is super small". When "you’re going on the weekend definitely get reservations". Even though small, "the food at Maverick tastes very fresh, healthy, and seasonal". When you "walk into this historic bank and feel the underground speakeasy vibes of the distillery" and when you "try their insane assortment of ridiculously tasty cocktails" such as the "Ghost of the Alamo" and other "in-house craft beers", you will "be hooked!" Their "whiskey, gin and agave will knock your socks off!" You can also join their tour which is "great with historical facts" you have not "heard before". Nothing could be more perfect than chicken and waffles and Maverick Whiskey serves some of the best! Read more about them and others in Kim's 8 Places for the freshest chicken and waffles in Houston.

Alamo Distilling Co.

Distillery in San Antonio - 147.10 mi

The Alamo Distilling Co. based in the heart of downtown San Antonio is on a roll. Co-founders Daniel Taylor and Nick Burns once dreamed of escaping their dreary jobs on New Year’s Eve 2014. Eventually quitting their jobs and taking a leap of faith, they set up shop in a 1,100 square foot facility near the San Antonio International Airport before their first year of business ended. In 2017, they moved into a 7,000 square foot building. Before 2019 ends, they are mobilizing to move into a 38,000 square foot facility. After having suffered through a brand identity crisis, the formerly-named Texas Craft Whiskey distillery now creates Alamo’s Black Label Bourbon, Catimore Coffee Liqueur, and Alamo Vodka as their flagship products, plus a variety of small-batch experimental spirits. They also shifted their energies away from the moonshine and rum markets. As a grain-to-glass distillery, they continue to remain committed to using the best ingredients possible and crafting memorable spirits.

Artisan on Alamo Distillery

Distillery in San Antonio - 147.34 mi

Artisan on Alamo Distillery got its start in 2012 with Spike Vodka, the only vodka made from prickly pear cactus. The distillery then followed up its initial offering with the introduction of Texas Pride Vodka, “an award-winning corn-based vodka”, and Chupacabra Juice Moonshine, “an ultra-smooth corn mash moonshine. Soon, in 206, founder and master distiller Nicholas Spink opened Artisan on Alamo Distillery featuring both the craft vodka distillery and a vodka lounge. In answer to popular clamor, he further expanded in 2018 to offer Bexar Ridge Bourbon Whisky and Pecan Ridge Whiskey. Besides its premium line of spirits, the Artisan on Alamo also features a relaxing outside patio for guests. Distillery tours are at 4pm and 7pm from Thursdays to Saturdays. Happy hour drink menus are available until 8pm. Guests can have food delivered to them at the lounge, or hire their own caterers for special events.
