Hedley is a city in Donley County, Texas. It is located on US 287, southeast of the county. Although there was a bit of controversy with regards to the land during its early days, Hedley was finally established in 1907; it was named after a railroad official who made sure that the railroad moved its shipping station from Rowe. The city has been known as a major cotton producer and gin operator. In the late 19th century, the town managed to host a Cotton Festival every October. However, the population was greatly affected by the improvement of highways and various economic changes. The population started to decrease in time and the number of businesses once dropped to seven. Before the opening of the 20th century, the town had 391 residents. As of 2010, its population was 329.
