Hermleigh is a CDP located in Scurry County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the CDP’s population was 354. The community is placed on U.S Route 84, and 96 miles of Lubbock. The community’s history dates back to 1907 when Harry W. and R.C. Herm explored the townsite near the community of Wheat. Residents named the community Hermlin but it was unacceptable because it was deemed to close to a nearby city, Hamlin. The town had to make a compromise and a post office was opened with the name of Hermleigh. The city’s public education system is provided by the Hermleigh Independent School District. The CDP’s total area is 9.1 square miles which are only 38 people per square mile.
