Hochheim is an unincorporated coterie located in DeWitt County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the community’s estimated population was around 70 residents. The community was established as a settlement for German immigrants besides the Guadalupe River. Recent history dates back to 1848 when a German settler named Valentine Hoch settled in the area of the rolling hills near the river with his son. The name probably comes from “Hoch’s Home” or “High Home” since Valentine Hoch’s house was built on a hill. The community’s post office was established in 1873. The town’s population reached its peak in 1904 with 261 residents living in the community.
