Hutchins is a city situated in Dallas County, Texas. The city’s population as of the 2010 census was 5,338. The lands were first occupied by families around the 1860s, it was used as a market for immigrants, who settled at Dowd’s Ferry and along the west bank of the Trinity River. Railroad developer named William J. Hutchins was the reason behind the town’s name. He was after the President and General Manager of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. The town was incorporated in 1945. The majority of Hutchins is served by the Dallas Independent School District. Hutchins has expanded at a much moderate pace and is one of the smallest municipalities in the county.
