The brewery also has the “very limited distribution” Immortal Ten Series. Available only in Round Rock, these beers are dedicated to the ten Round Rock students and staff of Baylor University who lost their lives in a tragic 1927 accident.

Texas Beer Company

Craft Brewery in Taylor - 7.49 mi

Texas Beer Company is one of those success stories that really took off because of the community. Founded by J.D. Gins and Ian Davis, this Taylor-based brewery counts a gold medal win at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival for their Pecos Amber Lager among their many achievements. Both have J.D.’s ex-girlfriend to thank for J.D.’s first homebrewing kit, which prompted his passion for brewing. J.D. is the company’s brewmaster. The two friends were community organizers who met during Obama’s presidential campaign. Launched in May 2016, the brewery came to be with support from various sectors. Prior to launch, they got a leg up when Davis’ friend bought the building they’re located in. Meanwhile, the two were conducting tastings rent-free and getting valuable inputs from locals. With economic development incentives from the city council, a successful initial funding campaign, and a follow-up fund campaign for expansion, the brewery continues to benefit from the support of the community it serves.

Compadre Brewing

Craft Brewery in Round Rock - 8.63 mi

Officially opened in the summer of 2019, Compadre Brewing is owned and operated by the Galvan family in Pflugerville/Round Rock. It’s a dog-friendly and family friendly brewery that started with a “Make Your Own Beer Kit” Christmas gift for Roel, the brewery’s owner and brewer. Together with his father Roy, the two set out to discover the world of craft beers, which culminated in their opening Compadre Brewing. As fate would have it, the family took over a short-lived brewery that used to exist at their present location. The brewery soft-opened with their Cinco De Cele(brew)cion last May 5, and served about 32 different craft beers on tap, including their own creations. A few months into their opening, the reviews have been great:
  • “It is awesome. Friendly staff, good beers and plenty of options of other local beers”
  • “Solid selection of beers”
  • “They like to push flavor profiles and add depth to the beer (which is) a good thing”

One thing that you can count on at the Round Rock spot is their exciting “IPAs and Pinthouse’s specialty style.” This location has corn holing, da fuzz ball and air hockey to entertain you when pizza and a good IPA just isn't enough. They quickly established itself as the place to go for fresh takes on the beloved beer.

Strange Land Brewery

Craft Brewery in Georgetown - 10.81 mi

Strange Land Brewery takes inspiration from “authentic and historical brewing styles” to produce “delicious, high-quality beer”. The Austin-based brewery is currently in a partnership with Rentsch Brewery and uses Rentsch’s state of the art facility. Their lineup includes five flagship beers and five “small batch reserves”. Founders Adam Blumenshein and Tim Klatt follow “a traditional approach” when brewing their beers. This approach includes “keg conditioning” their beer, a more natural process of adding carbonation. This method makes the beers more flavorful and friendlier to people with gluten sensitivity. Despite its respect for traditions, however, the brewery doesn’t hesitate to go into “unexplored horizons”. The past, the founders say, directs them in their journey to create superior craft beers.

RentSch Brewery

Craft Brewery in Georgetown - 10.85 mi

Focusing on German style beers, RentSch Brewery is a craft brewery in Georgetown Texas that was founded by father and son David and Andrew Rentschler. The inspiration for opening a brewery began in Europe where Andrew was studying German. Their facility is run entirely on “wind and solar power,” making their production 100% renewable. Their selection of brews is a mix of both old and new world styles with something for everyone like “Hefeweizen, Weizenbock, Blonde, IPA and Special Releases.” High demand for beer quickly exceeded their production capacity leading to an expansion of what you see today. They have doubled the brewery’s size, increased production capacity tenfold and added a state of the art canning line to bring Rentsch to you. If you’re in the neighborhood, swing by their taproom and beergarden to get a real taste of the beergarden life.

According to its owners, the brewery has been “a labor of love” which included suffering through three Texas summers without air-conditioning. Besides the in-house brews, the taproom also serves a rotating selection of beers and ciders from other breweries. Open from Friday to Sunday, the brewery is known for its excellent pizza, which uses spent grains and beer wort. They are actually also open on Thursdays but serve only their pizzas (no alcohol). Tips for visiting: Accepts cash only (there’s an ATM onsite). The kitchen closes an hour before published closing hours.

Their Doppel Blur Imperial Hefe, meanwhile, took bronze at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival. Circle Brewing is popular with the Austin community because they host several unique events each year. For example, in 2019, the 0.5K Marathon at the brewery's parking lot is on its 6th year. With beer in hand, donors participate in a race and proceeds go to a different charity each year. Another unique event had them team up with Equality Texas during Pride Month. Celis Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 15.13 mi

The Celis Brewery name is synonymous with witbier or “white beer”. The name Celis had gone through two iterations previously. Pierre Celis, the legendary brewer, built two breweries - one in Belgium and another in Austin - which ended in "Faustian deals” and forced Pierre to give up the breweries he built. The beer world mourned Pierre's passing in 2011. He is credited with reviving witbier, which had all but died in the 1950s. Celis Brewery “2.0”, essentially the third iteration of the brewery, is by Christine Celis, Pierre’s daughter. With help from outside investors, the brewery and taproom opened in 2017. Using her father’s original recipes, Christine recreated the beers that were her father’s legacy. She also introduced new ones that promise to continue the family name’s legendary reputation. Daytona Camps, Christine's daughter, joins her mother at the brewery. Like her mother, she is also a brewer having perfected her brewing skills around the U.S. and in Europe. Celis Brewery has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Check out the link to read more!

Uncultured Ales

Craft Brewery in Austin - 15.43 mi

Austin’s Uncultured Ales is a “very low production brewery” specializing in aged sour beers. Founder Cass Everitt is a self-taught homebrewer who happens to like sour beers. He specializes in what he calls “laissez-faire fermentation”. The process can take several months or even years, which accounts for his low production capacity for now. The brewery also doesn’t have a taproom just yet, but has managed to produce eight varieties. These include Fugarillo, a light golden dry hopped sour, and C-A55, a sour red ale. For distribution, he relies on Flood Independent Distribution. Meanwhile, fans of his beers can check Uncultured Ales’ Facebook page for information on where to find his beers.

Austin Beerworks

Craft Brewery in Austin - 15.69 mi

Austin Beerworks' four co-founders believe that “beer brings people together”. To this end, they established Austin Beerworks so “people (will) have a better time”. Austin Beerworks beers are only sold within about 50 miles of Austin, but the brewery is gaining national recognition. They recently made Forbes 11 Best Beers list in 2018. The brand started with their first release in April 2011. Initially raising the eyebrows of craft beer fans by having them distributed in bold, attractive cans, it went from a startup to “growing by over 180% each year”. Today, they have “core four” beers - Peacemaker, Pearl-Snap, Flavor Country, and Fire Eagle. In addition, they have a rotating set of seasonal beers, and the Heavy Machinery seasonal IPA series. They also lay claim to a world's first - the 99-pack - a marketing gimmick to promote their Peacemaker "Anytime Ale". In 2016, Austin Chronicle dubbed them “the new official beer of Austin”. In 2017, they expanded to a 15,000+ square foot warehouse next door to the brewery. Austin Beerworks has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020).
