The city of Idalou is located in Lubbock County in Texas. The town is situated 7 miles northeast of the county seat. The population of the town used to be 2,250 as of the 2010 census. Idalou began as a community in the early 1910s. In 1917 the first post office was opened and so began the development of the city. Two years later, a two-story school was established. The town was originally incorporated in 1925. Having 538 citizens back then. The town also distributes as an agricultural center for cotton. The town gained its name for Ida and Lou Basset, who were sisters of vice-president of the Crosby-Basster Livestock Company.
