Ira is an unincorporated coterie located in Scurry County in Texas. The community now has an estimated population of around 250 residents. The community is placed on the intersection of State Highway 350 and Farm to Market Road 1606. The coterie’s history began in the early 1890s, Ira Green built a general store in the area. A school opened up in 1893, and a post office just one year after that. The postmaster of the town was Ira Green. The town’s peak was in the early twentieth century and has since then diminished to less than five hundred residents in the 1980s and decreased to 250 today. The community is distributed by the Ira Independent School District.
