Ivanhoe is a community that is unincorporated and is located in Fanning County in Texas. It is situated just 10 miles north of the county seat of Fanning County. Students from the area are distributed by the Sam Rayburn Independent School District. The town has a post office and a winery. In October 2011 the tradition in Ivanhoe started, every year since then they’ve put on a wine show. Ivanhoe General Store is situated here. In 1845. A settler by the name of Strother Hawkins received this land. The community was in the early days called Hawkins Prairie. The name didn’t last as there was already a town named Hawkins in Texas. Joe Dupree was the man that chose Ivanhoe. He chose it because he was attached to Sir Walter Scott’s Eerie tale “Ivanhoe”.
