Jasper is the county seat of its own county in Texas. In 2010, the town’s population was 7.590. Jasper has a nickname “Butterfly Capital of Texas”. The town holds a yearly Butterfly Festival which occurs every first Saturday in October, celebrating the migration of monarch butterflies. The area was originally settled in 1824. By John Bevil. The area was then known as “Snow River. 11 Years later the town was renamed. The town got the name Jasper from a war hero that fought in the American Revolution, William Jasper. The city became the county seat in 1844. And was admitted to the U.S with the annexation of Texas.
