Jefferson is a city located in Marion County in Texas. Jefferson isn’t a part of Jefferson County which is also in Texas. As of the 2018 census, the population of the city was 2,533. The city itself is the country seat of Marion County. Jefferson is a great tourist destination with some of the attractions of the city being Historic Jefferson Railway, The Grove, Historical Jefferson Museum, and Museum of Measurement and Time. Early documentation says that Jefferson was founded around 1841. The town was named for Thomas Jefferson. The town’s peak population was a few years after the civil war of around 30,000 citizens.
