Kermit is located in Winkler County in Texas. Kermit is the county seat. At the 2010 census, the population of the city was 5,708 citizens. The city was named after Theodore Ruzvelt’s son, Kermit. Theodore visited the county and decided the name. The first public school and a post office were opened in 1910. In 1916, the whole county was droughted. Only one family remained in the town in 1924. Only one student was in school for five months that year. Oil was discovered near Kermit and the population drastically rose. By 1929. The town’s population was 1500 residents. On March 4th that year, the Texas-New Mexico Railway came to the town. The town became incorporated in 1938.
