Kurten is a city situated in Brazos County in Texas. The town’s population was 398 as of the 2010 census. The post office of the town was opened in the 1890s. The city of Kurten is served by the Bryan Independent School District. Annually, on Independence day, Kurten hosts a firework show. The town was known for having a law that legalized the distribution of African birds, Guinea Fowls. Eleven different forms of attacks by the species have been reported in early 1906. Kurten is located just ten miles East of Brazos County seat, Bryan. This makes it available for Kurten residents to commute to work to the county seat.
