Laird Hill is an unincorporated coterie located in Rusk County in Texas. The community is located on the northwestern side of Rusk County. The coterie is situated along State Highway 42. At some point in the East Texas oil boom, the town went by the nickname of “Pistol Hill”. The community gained its name for a well known S.S. Laird family. The town’s first postmaster was appointed in 1936, Ignatius S. Cutcher. The town’s population was at a high of 500 residents at the 1940 census. The town’s population was 405 as of the 2000 census. The community itself is located just southwest of Kilgore.
