Lane city is an unincorporated coterie located in Wharton County in Texas. Lane city is situated at the junction of FMR 442 and State Highway 60. The town was originally named for Jonathan Lane who was the president of Cane Belt Railroad. As the Handbook of Texas states, the town had an estimated population of 111 in the year 2000. Even though Lane City is unincorporated, the community has its own post office. The post office was built with the name Arnim in 1901. But, the name was changed just ten years later to what it is today on February 13th.
