LaRue is an unincorporated coterie located in Henderson County in Texas. When the 2000 census took place, the town’s population was around 160. The public education system is distributed by the La Poynor Independent School District. The town began in the 1840s and it has gotten its name from a certain Joseph La Rue who was a man from Athens. He was a negotiator for the right of the way of the railroad. The railroad allowed connections and with that the town’s population peaked some years after that, with around 400 residents. The community’s altitude goes up to around 480 feet.
