Ledbetter is an unincorporated coterie located in Fayette County. Even though Ledbetter is unincorporated, it has its own post office. The town was named after early settlers. Ledbetter was the first town to get a railroad so it had a head start over other cities. The community’s best days were in the 1870s and the 1880s when it was the first town in Fayette County. The town’s downfall began in the 1900s when LaGrange’s star was rising, which is the county seat of Fayette. LaGrange had a courthouse and it was hard to compete. Ledbetter’s best source of income is the gravel industry.
