Livingston is a city, and also the county seat of Polk County in Texas. It is the largest city of the county with 5,335 residents as of the 2010 census. The town’s original name was Springfield in 1839. It was renamed after Livingston in Tennessee which was the hometown of Moses Choate who donated the land when Polk County was established in 1846. Some of the top sights located in Livingston are Lake Livingston State Park, Polk County Memorial Museum, Joe Pedigo Park, and Lake Livingston Dam. The city itself is distributed by its own Independent School District. The town has a total area of 8.4 square miles according to the U.S Bureau.
