Lopeno is a CDP situated in Zapata County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the community’s population was 174. The town’s progress began in 1747. The post office of the town wasn’t established until 1920. The town’s location is just twenty miles southeast of Zapata which is the county seat. All of the communities in Zapata County are distributed by the Zapata Independent School District. The town’s original founder was a Spanish colonist, Col. Jose de Escandon. The U.S Bureau states that this CDP has only 0.8 square miles, all of it is land. When the Falcon Reservoir was established in 1952, residents moved to the new townsite.
