Los Fresnos is a city located in Cameron County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the town’s population was 6,542. It has grown since the 2000 census by two thousand residents. The city was named after Fresnos (ash) which is a flowering plant in the olive and lilac family. They are scattered around the area. In 1912, Lon Hill who was one of the first settlers in the land established a company to develop a canal system for Rio Grande River. Railroads were being built in the early 1900s which is what brought more settlers to the area. Los Fresnos is provided by the Los Fresnos Independent School District.
