Matador is found in the county of Motley in Texas, United States. It is a town with a population of 607 as at the census of 2010. It is situated 95 miles east of Lubbock in Texas. It had its first post office opened in 1886. Matador was named after Matador Ranch in 1891 when it was established. It was made a county seat after it was incorporated in 1912. Motley County Railroad was constructed in 1913 as the first rail line in Matador. Dew Drop Salon led in business until 1893. In 1891, a learning institution was opened and a bank followed in 1901.
