Maud is a city in Texas located near the U.S. Highway 67 in Bowie County. The town was named after Samuel D. Knapp’s daughter, Maud Knapp. Samuel D. Knapp was the first postmaster of this city. Knapp also donated the land on which this place was constructed. The town started to develop after a railroad reached this area. The first post office was founded here in 1881, and the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant that was constructed during World War II significantly impacted the economy of this city. The two facilities employed many citizens in this area, propelling the city's development.
