The U.S. unincorporated community of Maxwell is found in Caldwell County, Texas. The community was initially known as New Martindale. Thomas Maxwell obtained a grant for the land on which this community sits in 1845. In 1887, the Katy railroad was constructed through this area. Later in 1888, Maxwell Post Office was established. An increase in population led to building a gin, a gristmill, and general stores by 1914. In 1980, Maxwell was the filming location of the film Raggedy Man that featured locals in some roles. In 1989, several routes to San Marcos were opened the Union Pacific bought Katy Railroad.
