The unincorporated community of May sits at the junction of Highway 183 and Farm Road 1689 in Brown County in the state of Texas. The town was named after W. D. May, who was a pioneer settler in this area. In 1879, Nathan L. May started the first store in this community. Later in 1881, the first post office was founded with Nathan L. May as the postmaster. In 1907, May became the station of Brownwood North and South Railway. However, the railroad was abandoned in 1927. By 1940, this unincorporated community had schools, churches, and businesses facilitated by population growth.
