Melissa City is found in Collin County in the US state of Texas. The 2010 census reported the city’s population as 1,350. Melissa’s first settlers came into the area from a neighboring community. Among these settlers was C. H. Wyson. A post office was opened in the area in 1853. The town was laid out during the construction of the Houston & Texas Central Railroad in 1872. Many families were encouraged to move to Melissa by the railroad. The town was named after George A. Quinlan’s daughter. Quinlan a railroad executive with the Houston & Texas Central Railroad. In 1949, Melissa’s population had declined to 285 from the 500 recorded in 1925.
