Meridian City is situated in Bosque County in the US state of Texas. It also serves as the county’s county seat. The city’s population was 1,493 as per the 2010 census report. The community was founded in 1854 when Bosque was established. It is not clear how this community acquired its name. It is believed that Jasper Mabray proposed the town’s name as Meridian Knobs or Meridian Creek. The town is located on the 98th meridian, hence the name. A tavern was opened in the town in 1854. In 1856, the first post office was opened in the town, and a general variety store followed in 1861.
