Midfield’s peak of population was in 1914 when there were estimated to be around three hundred Midfielders. The community was a stop on Texas and New Orleans Railroad. As of then, the coterie already had two general stores, a bank, and a lumberyard. Eleven years after the town had its peak population, the population itself was cut in half. And in 1949, Midfield was down because of the school consolidation. Today, the community is surrounded by turf farms, something that the early settlers couldn’t really imagine. Midfield is an unincorporated community and is located in Matagorda County. Although the town is unincorporated, it has a post office. Midfield had an estimated population of 70 residents as of the 2010 year.
