The Lewis family settled in around the area in 1849. The original site where they settled is one mile east of Minden’s location as of now. The town of Minden was granted a post office just one year later. H.W. Watson suggested the town be named this way, for his hometown in Louisiana. The town’s population had its ups and downs but in the 1960s it had a decent amount of 350 residents and the number remained ever since. Minden is an unincorporated coterie and is located in Rusk County. The town of Minden is located eleven miles south of Henderson which is the county seat of Rusk County.
