The town was initially situated two miles northwest of its present location. The town of Moulton was established in the mid-1850s. The town was probably named for an early settler named E.L. Moulton but could’ve been named after another town located in either Alabama or Kentucky. The post office of the town was opened in 1855. The town itself is located in Lavaca County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 886. Moulton’s public education system is being served by the Moulton Independent School District. The town has a newspaper that covers the area named The Moulton Eagle.
