Located in Kerr County, Mountain Home was known as Eura in the 20th century. The area was settled in 1856. The last Indian raid that occurred in Kerr County was in 1878 when four children were killed. The main source of revenue has always been ranching. Mountain Home is the location of the Texas Fisheries Research Station and the Texas Catholic Boys Camp. The Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting is held at the Y.O. Ranch, an authentic 19th-century ranch that houses a variety of exotic animals. The infamous Texas Slave Ranch was located here where hitchhikers and drifters were put to work at the Slave Ranch.
