Muenster, Texas is named after the capital of Westphalia in Germany. Established in 1899, it is a German Catholic community located in west central Cooke County. The area came to when the Flusche brothers were land agents who sold 22,000 acres of land to immigrant settlers. Muenster was then incorporated in December 1927. The main industries were farming, dairying and oil. Despite drought, typhoid fever, and tornadoes destroying the first two church buildings, the area grew and farming and dairy business increased. In 1926 an oil boom added to the prosperity of the town. The town holds an annual spring festival called ‘Germanfest’.
