Nevada, Texas is located in southeastern Collin County. The rich soils of the Blackland Prairies and the water provided by Bear Creek attracted settlers to the area as early as the mid-1840s. The founder, John McMinn and his family provided the core of the town. There is a chapel named after him. Nevada developed in the early 1860s. Nevada was a shipping point and market for the agrarian region. On May 1927 the town was struck by a tornado which the town never recovered from. That tornado was ranked as one of Texas’ most destructive tornados. As of 2010, the total population is 822.
