Found in north central Lynn County, the tiny agricultural community was originally a part of the Deuce of Hearts Ranch. A portion of the ranch was platted and opened for settlement in the 1890s. L. G. DePriest then suggested the community be named New Home because all the homes were new to their occupants. New Home is located on the high plains of the Llano Estacado. Farming was the main source of revenue between 1905 and 1910. In the 1980s, the economy changed to cotton-producing and ginning. New Home is served by the New Home Independent School District.
