Founded in 1908, New Castle is found in central Young County. The Wichita Falls and Southern Railway arrived in 1907 from Olney and before long coal was being shipped to Wichita Falls. The town was named Newcastle after the English coal town. There were three strikes that occurred in the year 1914 and 1915. When World War II began, mining operations started to stop as demand had decreased. After that, the main source of income came from farms, vineyards, and oil. Because Newcastle was near old Fort Belknap, former Indian fighters held reunions there for some years.
