Nixon is located in southwestern Gonzales County. It was founded when the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway built through the John T. Nixon Ranch in 1906. In 1852, Robert T. Nixon at the northern Gonzales—Guadalupe County line founded the original settlement of Nixon, now known as the ghost town “Old Nixon. The community was granted a post office under the name Nixonville in 1906, and the name was shortened to Nixon in 1908. Nixon flourished as markets and tradesmen settled in. From the 1950s onwards, agriculture and later oil have been the ground bed of the local economy. As of 2010 census, the total population is 2,385 people.
