Nordheim is located near the Karnes county line in western DeWitt County. It is a German community that was established in 1895 as a siding. It was once known as Weldon Switch but was renamed to Nordheim in 1897 after William Frobese's hometown in Germany. Pilot Knob, a 447-foot hill served as a lookout and guidepost for the Indians and pioneers. In 1907 the Cuero Star described the town as an important poultry-raising and shipping center. The citizens of Nordheim were considered as the "better class" of German farmers. On May 1930, a cyclone hit the town which cause an economic downturn.
