Founded in 1907 during the Northern movement of the Zulch citizens, relocating along the newly constructed Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway, hence, it was established "astride the tracks". North Zulch is an unincorporated community located at the intersection of State Highway 21 and U.S. Highway 190, six miles from the Navasota River, and thirteen miles west of Madisonville in west-central Madison County. This area is named after Julius Zulch, an immigrant from Kassel, Germany in 1850 who became a prosperous merchant and cotton grower in Madison County. Aside from being known as the home of the North Zulch High School Bulldogs, the North Zulch Independent School District became prominent here for over 100 years.
