Waverly, which is today actually known as Old Waverly is an unincorporated coterie situated in Walker County in Texas. James Winters was one of the first settlers of the area and he arrived in 1835. The town’s post office was established twenty years later and it operated until 1872. The town was incorporated in 1858. The town’s population started decreasing after the town’s leaders didn’t want to give the railroad the right of way through the town. They feared that the town would attract ignorant people to the lands. The town is set on the junction of Texas State Highway 150 and Farm to Market Road 1725. The town has a total population of 200 citizens as of the year 2000.
