Pantego is entirely surrounded by the cities of Arlington and Dalworthington Gardens. This town is located immediately southwest of downtown Arlington and ten miles southeast of downtown Fort Worth in eastern Tarrant County, Texas. It is in the middle of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, a metropolitan area spanning several counties. It was originally incorporated in 1949, the town dissolved in February 1952 and re-incorporated on May 22, 1952. Early settlers included Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson and Colonel Frederick Forney Foscue who also had a Native American friend named Pantego. In 1883, he donated an acre of land for a church and school and the town's name, Pantego, was adopted in honor for his trusted Indian friend. With a total area of 1.0 square miles, the town's southern border adjoins Dalworthington Gardens; both towns are completely surrounded by the city of Arlington. Also, there are no colleges or universities in Pantego. It reached a population of 2,543 in 2017.
